How to record Skype Calls

I have been asked many times “How to record Skype Calls” and so here are some ways to do it….

Audio vs. Video

For the sake of this article we are only talking abut recording audio. Recording Video is a future article and is more tricky, so we will focus only on the audio portion in this article for posting interviews, Podcasts, recording TeleSeminars, or conversations for any reason you need.

Software

There are several software add-ons specifically for Skype and that is what we will focus on. You also have the option of using solutions that are generic that record anything on your screen and audio card, but as I stated before, these are more sophisticated and costly solutions and we are focusing on Skype voice calls only for this article. Something to point out is many audio recording solutions install a shim between the audio card driver so the recording application can listen to what is going in and out of the audio card driver. These solutions can play havoc with other solutions that do the same thing or modify your audio card drivers, so be careful to understand how these recording applications interact to avoid crashing your system. If you are trying solutions, uninstall one and reboot before installing another one to avoid conflicting solutions.

The object is to make it easy to record calls and save it in a format that you can edit (crop and cut) and post on your website.
