This is the leading website on the Internet on the subject of 'Video Calls' or 'Personal Video Conferencing' hosted by renowned author and Video Conferencing expert Michael Gough. This website is for those that want to keep up with the latest advances in 'Personal Video Conferencing' in order to have Video Calls with family and friends.
-----------
I have combined my VideoCallTips.com and SkypeTips.com websites since my focus is around Video Call technology and Virtual Visitation. Though VoIP calls with Skype is still heavily used, Video Calls now make up over 1/3 of all Skype calls worldwide which should indicate where Video Calls are going... into everyones living room!

So what is the future of ?
With CES 2010 now behind us and eBay selling Skype, what can we expect from Skype in the coming year? Skype has become the defacto standard for Video Calls and Voice Calls over the Internet using your computer. CES 2010 showed us Skype TV, high defition Skype Video Calls in your living room on your high definition television. There are rumors of Skype becoming a multi-user video call solution, rivaling SightSpeed, now owned by Logitech and named 'Logitech Vid'. Once Skype figures out how to do multi-user with their peer-to-peer technology and of course their new owners intention and direction, Skype is positioned to grow in the Personal Video Call space. But one thing is for sure... Skype is the leader in the Personal Video Conferencing space and things are looking up with Skype TV and the new owners. |

The state of Video Calls in 2010 |
I have been using Video Call technology since 2002 and back then I was forced to use Microsoft NetMeeting, the only solution worth using at that time. The state of Personal Video Calls has sure evolved and with CES 2010, it is finally heading where I thought it would... to your living room television!
LG and Panasonic demonstrated High Definition (HD) Video Calls using Skype and an HD webcam on their HD televisions. Now the HD webcam is nothing new, Logitech has had webcams capable of 720p for over a year, but several new providers of webcams demonstrated their HD products. If you have never used a HD Video Call, boy are you in for a treat. The quality, clarity and experience will have you hooked.

Who are the leaders in Video Calls? |
The biggest question I get is "So who are the leaders in Video Call technology?". A few years ago I couldn't tell you, but today there are clear leaders in the Personal Video Conferencing and Video Call space. Now keep in mind we would not recommend any solution that exposes you or your family to adult related content. The solutions we recommend are ones that have the ability to control privacy and security and provides you high quality audio and video so that your video call experience is as good as it can be.
